英语表达积累：engulf; riveting

1.engulf

在听有声书时多次听到 be engulfed in…的表达，表示“被…包围/吞没”。要是让我去想如何表达这个意思，我可能只会想到 be surrounded/enclosed by.

1. if an unpleasant feeling engulfs you, you feel it very strongly. 看到这个意思，我忽然想到“忧伤袭来”这几个字。

在书评推荐语中老看到"It's riveting!"这样的表达。查词典，riveting：something so interesting/exciting that attracts you，也就是十分吸引人的意思，近义词:gripping/fascinating. rivet是连接金属的铆钉，起固定作用，因此riveting就是引申义，指某个事物太吸引人了，牢牢“抓住”你的注意力。
下次评价好看的书/电影也可以说"It's riveting!"
