【道德经】英译 第四章

道 冲 ， 而 用 之 或 不 盈 。

Dao is a hollow vessle and its use is inexhaustible.

渊 兮 ， 似 万 物 之 宗 。

Abyss! It is so deep and profound that it is like the ancestor of all things.

挫其锐，解其纷，和其光，同其尘。

Its sharp edges are rounded off; its entanglements are untied. Drifting with the current, one shall not stand out from his surroundings.

湛 兮 ， 似 或 存 。

Yet as tranquil and serene as it is, Dao seems to exist all around.

吾 不 知 谁 之 子 ， 象 帝 之 先 。

I do not know where Dao comes from. It seems as if Dao existed before Heaven and Earth.
