读原著学英语（四）|《绿野仙踪》里“顽皮”的小词The Wond

《绿野仙踪》是美国作家莱曼•弗兰克•鲍姆（Layman Frank Baum 1856〜1919）最为著名、艺术成就最高的一部著作，成书于1900年。著名电影《飞屋环游记》的导演曾坦言他们费了很大劲才让该片不那么像《绿野仙踪》。
因为故事内容非常简单，所以本次阅读的重心不在翻译，而在于积累一些“小词”的用法。所谓“小词”就是那些看上去很熟悉且拼写简单的词，我们经常以为自己已经完全掌握了这类词。而童话故事却用鲜活的语境告诉我们：“小词”们也古灵精怪得很呢！绝不能小觑！
不信，来看看它们可以多么“调皮”吧！
1 The sun had baked the plowed land into a gray mass.（bake烤面包/太阳烤土地）
2 The jar made her catch her breath and wonder what had happened.（广口瓶/猛然震动）
