Do you have compassion for life in general? Do you believe that true compassion lives in everybody's heart?

B : 没有，也不相信…… 生命是没什么意义的，人都会死去，况且很多人都是邪恶的。我的悲观和愤世嫉俗跟自己很匹配。我把人和形势都往坏处想，所以往往没什么大惊小怪的。
B :No and no…… Life is pointless and then you die and lots of people are evil.My pessimism and cynicism have served me well. I think the worst about people and situations, so I'm frequently not surprised.

K : 是的，我相信。我们生来童真，即便小的时候也不难辨别和理解别人的痛楚。我想，来自社会和人际关系这些外部因素给我们带来了压力。这些压力和个人境遇使得我们中的一些人走向自私，而这部分人正是那些缺乏同情心的人……
K : Yes, I do.We all come from innocence. It doesn't take much for any of us to recognize and understand pain in someone else, even when we are young. I think that outside factors from society and relationships give us pressures. Those pressures and individual situations force some of us into being selfish, and these are the ones who end up lacking compassion……

J: 我认为我们不会给别人的世界带来什么影响，你认为呢？
南: 从某种程度上来讲，你的世界影响着别人的世界。所有物质都是相互作用的，也包括我们的精神世界。我一直相信真正的同情心是与生俱来的。每个人在出生时都自带同情心，可随着成长，人们由于某些外部原因渐渐失去了同情心……
J: 我想大多数人一开始是有同情心的，出生以后没有同情心的人非常罕见。我们日常生活中所接触的人和事肯定会对我们生活中的不同方面、对我们与世界的相处方式产生影响。
J : I don't think we make an impact on the world of others. What do you think?
南 : Your world influences others' in a way. All the substances interact, our spiritual worlds are involved as well. I always believe that true compassion is innate. Every individual was born with compassion. As people get older, they gradually lose compassion due to certain external causes……
J: I think the majority of people have compassion right from the beginning. It's a rare thing to be born without. The people and events we are exposed to every day of our lives definitely affect different aspects of our lives and how we interact with the world.

T : 我觉得同情心只能存在于小范围以内，比如家庭啊、朋友啊，也可以是同一个村里的人。你拓展的人际范围越广，就会越发缺乏对"外人"的信任。我本以为日本作为一个同质国家（此处意指"日本人"）会更加富有同情心，可事实并非如此。
T : I think compassion can only exist on a small scale, like families, friends, and maybe the population of a village. The more you expand, the less you trust people who might not come from your own group. I thought Japanese would be more compassionate as a homogeneous nation, but they are not.
