近日,查看学历翻译的小编,读到一封印度学历证明上的一句话。

This is to certify that Somebody has been admitted to the degree of Doctor of philosophy in the subject Blablabla.

admit?不是入学吗?

shouldn't be award

考虑到好歹一国证书,必然不会太low,小编先偷懒去百度搜索,果然没有答案。心死。

于是去外网查看,有相关提问及回答,搬运如下:

甲:what does "admitted to the degree of" that you are starting a degree or it have finished a degree?

乙:Probably starting, since the names says "admitted to" instead of simply "degree of" or "awarded degree of" or something of the like.

丙:It's an Anglo way of saying what Americans mean by Awarded the degree. Americans tend to think of a degree as a thing, where everyone else thinks of it as a level.     Think of a degree as analogous to a floor in a building. When you step off the elevator, you are admitted to the floor. You're not awarded the floor.

甲语法学的有点问题,乙应该是吃瓜美国人,丙解释的就很清楚了。

degree在除美国以外国家相当于一种水平,获得博士学位等于认可达博士水平。

另外一处说明也认可了这种说法。

If your diploma is from a university in the UK, and quite possibly universities in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc., then the phrase "admitted to the degree" indicates graduation. In the US, those phrases have different meanings.

So,明白了,原来award才是小众的说法,可是谁让美国文凭不小众呢。
