地点：监狱探视间
人物：杰玛、卢克、狱警格雷戈和其他劳教人员
情节：杰玛来探视卢克，两人谈到了课程学习的事情。卢克为了进一步博取女友芳心，使用贬低他人而提升自己的小伎俩，在女友面前将自己的课程修学与罗杰的法语课程对比了一番。

【杰玛】：That's great!

【卢克】：That's more than great. I get all these extra visits, and all I have to do is sit back[1] and listen to the insane[2] ramblings[3] of a clearly emotionally distressed[4] man.

（注：此时在探监室值班的狱警格雷戈来到杰玛和卢克身边，脸上带着含有敌意的笑容）

【狱警格雷戈】：Lukey boy, I've got a treat[5] for you later. F Wing toilets are all out of[6] cakes. Do you fancy[7] helping me choose from the catalogue[8]?

【卢克】：Sure thing[9]!

（卢克、杰玛看着格雷戈回到其座位上，然后两人相视了一会儿，接着说）

【卢克】：Plus, it's the only course where you don't have exams. Bish, bash, bosh[10]!

【杰玛】：Well, it wouldn't do any harm if you got a qualification[11] while you're in here. It's just... You remember Roger?

【卢克】：You mean, the Roger who's trying to get into my girl friend's...?

【杰玛】：The Roger who's my very supportive friend who Luke needs to be less paranoid[12] about.

【卢克】：No, I don't remember that one.

【杰玛】：Well, he's doing a French GCSE[13]. It's going to help him get a promotion[14].

【卢克】：French?

【杰玛】：It's the language of love.

【卢克】：Italian's the language of love. French is the language of horse-eating[15] and racism[16].

【杰玛】：I'm just saying he's bettering[17] himself, be nice if you could do the same.

【卢克】：Well, if you'd let me get a word in[18] you'd realise I was in the middle of telling[19] you that my course isn't fulfilling[20] enough and that I'm in the middle of switching to[21] an A-level in a subject much less babyish[22] than French.

【杰玛】：That's brilliant, Lukey! Why didn't you say so before? That's really going to open doors in Australia, jobwise[23].

【卢克】：Lucky that I'm doing an A-level rather than a silly little French GCSE, then. Some of us already know the words to Frere Jacques[24].

【卢克】：Puzzle, whatever. It's hardly an A-level, isn't it? In my subject, my difficult and beloved subject.
