关于“说”的英文表达，我总结了20种，你会哪几种？

近期，《经济学人》发表了一篇关于英国学校里穆斯林女孩是否能戴希贾布（hijab）的文章。什么是希贾布？看这张图就能秒懂。
为什么会产生爆炸性讨论呢？我们都知道英国学校的学生上学一般都穿统一的校服，而且是美美的校服。像这样...
这张图片看起来比较真实！
但是有这样头戴希贾布的一群人走在校园里，太显眼了。
但是，由于受到宗教的约束，穆斯林女孩子们也没办法，她们的校长更加没办法。这涉及到民族宗教的问题。更有甚者，有人提出专门设立一天，让非穆斯林女孩也戴戴希贾布。
文章中有这么一段话讲述了校长遇到的困境：
Amanda Spielman of Ofsted said her agency would always“back [school] heads who take tough decisions in the interests of their pupils.” She added that school leaders“must have the right to set school uniform policies as they see fit, in order to promote cohesion” and expressed “deep regret” over the fact that the Ms Lall’s initiative had incurred a campaign of abuse.
这段话有三个词表达 “说”的含义，只不过表达重点略有不同。
1. “say” 最基础，直接引用，间接引用都可以使用。
2. “add” 在前文表达的基础上又说，重点在“补充说”。
3. “express” “表达，表示，表现”，一般用来发表观点、提出担心或忧虑等。
除了这段出现了3个“说”，我们再来看下面一句：
In a ten-point argument against restricting the wearing of the hijab in primary schools an activist called Siema Iqbal proclaimed that “as a parent I have the right to make decisions for my child” and that this right was enshrined by European human-rights legislation.
家长也跳出来维权，校长真心不好当啊！
4. “proclaim”
英文解释是announce officially or publicly，中文解释是（正式）宣告，（公开）声明。
大家感受到浓浓的强硬之气了吧。这个家长真不愧是倡议穆斯林戴希贾布的积极分子啊！
除了这四个词，我们还有哪些词也可以表达“说”呢？

以上五个属于低阶词汇，我想不必赘述了吧。我们主要来看看下面这几个进阶词汇：

a. 英文解释是 speak to (a person or an assembly), typically in a formal way，中文意思是(多指正式)对...讲话，致词。
比如， to address a meeting, 属于及物动词的用法。
b. 还有一个意思是say or write remarks or a protest to 诉说，书面提交。
比如，I was surprised when he addressed me in English.
11. discourse
我最先熟悉的是它名词用法，比如语篇分析（discourse analysis），它是英语语言学的一个研究分支。
作为动词，英文解释是(formal) to talk or give a long speech that you know a lot about。中文意思是讲述，论述。
一般这么用：discourse on/upon sth
12. voice
大家肯定都认识这个词，“嗓音”嘛！VOA中的V指的就是Voice。
其实，它还可以用做动词，是“发音、表达、说出”的意思，英文解释是 to tell people your feelings or opinions sbout sth.
比如，A number of parents have voiced their concern about their children's safety.
一些家长对他们子女的安全表示了担心。
13. claim
英文解释是to say sth that is true although it has not been proved and other people may not believe it，也就是“宣称、声称、断言”的意思。
看起来和proclaim有点相似，但是意思有点区别，pro-是个前缀，有“支持”的意思，“支持宣称”就变成了正式宣告了。
比如， I don't claim to be an expert. 我不敢自称为专家。
14. respond & 15. reply
这个应该不陌生。
一般这么用：respond/reply to sb/sth with sb（口头或书面）回答或回应。
比如，She never responded/replyed to my letter.
16. canvass & 17. persuade
这两个词都有劝说、游说的意思。canvass指的是政治上游说，而persuade意思要宽泛一些。
比如， He spent the whole month canvassing for votes.
Please try to persuade her.
18. criticize
“批评、指责、批判” 的意思。
比如， All you ever do is criticize! 你就知道批评！
你忙着自我提升，哪有功夫批评别人啊！
19. scold & 20. rebuke
前者指“责骂、斥责”，后者指“谴责”，程度更重！
比如，He scolded them for arriving late.
The president rebuked the House and Senate for not passing those bills within 100 days. 总统谴责参众两院没有在100天之内通过那些法案。
