Someone Is Coming To Visit

Someone is coming to visit me

That is such a wonderful thing

Someone is on a path to see me

A path straight to ‘moi’

Someone is coming to meet me

That is so heartwarming

My visitors have stopped visiting

Leaving me alone in my small world

Someone is coming to call on me

Such a moving feeling

I am 92 on this old planet

Both still barreling through outer space

Someone is coming to talk to me

An honest exchange we will have

Winter is melting with thoughts of sharing

Spring looks promising to me now

A young reporter wishes to interview me

Comprehend me in person he will

Bringing his entire life

A rare encounter I dare not squander

The young reporter begins to canvas me

Such a novel thing I do not withdraw

I try not to disappoint

But the young man wishes to learn more

I tell him the opposite of what he is feeling

About not knowing what is in-store

You see, not knowing can be a good thing

So you do not become a know-it-all

Not knowing what tomorrow brings

Won’t hurt you too much

It is the sheer experience of trying

An important journey you don’t want to miss

After 92 years, I say with confidence

Life will hurt you in exchange

A suffering to liberate a restless heart

A painful trade-off you cannot avoid

Search your own inner being

Not by asking but by doing

Not by knowing beforehand

But stepping into the unknown

Each new journey is a step we make

Unfolding a mystery in us all

Seek not someone else’s secret

It may not light a flame that is only yours

Peeling away each unknown

Reveals the greatness that lurks within

Big steps and small steps

Lie in wait to gain access to your soul

Throughout our long life

Opportunity approaches to meet us

Like our uneventful talk this hour

Listening to words, spoken with power
