一 words and expressions
1. I mention this as a reminder that far more periodical reading is done under the dryer than under the reading lamp, so there isn’t much time for the writer to fool around.
fool around:to behave in a way which is careless and not responsible乱弄,瞎弄
2. No item is therefore too trivial that puts us back in touch with them.
trivial的意思是微不足道的,与上一句的minutiae意思相近。
3. many of the people who live around here have some tenuous connection with the motion-picture industry.
tenuous:a situation or relationship that is tenuous is uncertain, weak, or likely to change缥缈的; 脆弱的; 不确定的
4. Ideally they should encapsulate the idea of the piece and conclude with a sentence that jolts us with its fitness or unexpectedness.
encapsulate:to express or show something in a short way概括,压缩

在文章的开始,作者便提到如何是lead更加吸引人。
Therefore your lead must capture the reader immediately and force him to keep reading.
Next the lead must do some real work.
Continue to build. Every paragraph should amplify the one that preceded it.
同时,作者也提到ending的重要性:
The positive reason for ending well is that a good last sentence—or last paragraph—is a joy in itself. It gives the reader a lift, and it lingers when the article is over.
可见结尾的作用是我们常常说的“深华全文”。并不是简简单单的结构上的作用。
