RANDOM IDEAS OF 3D PRINTING

3D printing technology is super super cool. It is not only a low-cost and efficient way to build up models, but also a new perspective for people to understand things. So 3D printing is now widely applied into design, fashion, architecture, even food and medicine.

During the wonderful time spent with the Ultimaker, ideas generated. Some are stupid and naive, but some ideas really worth spread.(Not TED, lol)

1. Flat Material Experiments

Diego Zamora's former project "WEAR 3D" is impressive to me. Actually there are already many 3D printing fashion shows that really blow people's mind.

Screen Shots of Google search "3d printing clothes"

Wow, they are really masterpieces with the cutting-edge design and engineering. However, due to the restrictions of the devices and materials in ECA, I can't do similar projects.

 Diego explored a new possibility.

WEAR 3D Project, Diego Zamora

In his project, the solution of "wearing 3D" was the collaboration of 3D printing and tradition clothes materials. I think this is a clever design, using 3D printing tech as an element of clothes, providing flexibility and comfort of wearing. Even though they are not super eye-catching, Diego described the project as "High level collaboration" "Practices are meshed and connected".

Diego's practice gives me an inspiration. The success of his collaboration is largely because of the features of the materials: planar surfaces. 3D printing builds up layer by layer, so it is possible to combine flat materials between layers.

Later I will try to find a wide range of flat materials such as papers, transparent membrane, strings and so on, do some experiments with the 3D printing, must be really interesting.

2. Boat in A Bottle

"You need to stay with the machine for hours while printing. It will be exhausting, but you have to. " Jeff repeated several times before we started our 3D printing. However, I never get bored but found it interesting simply watching the printing process. And luckily I got some random ideas from it.

My Sketch

As shown in my sketch above, I can making things that look like impossible: trapping a stone in a glass bottle.

With 3D printing, Boat in A Bottle won't be that difficult to achieve, haha.
