Do you think creativity can be learnt?

The question should be, “Who can’t learn to be creative?” Many people believe that creativity is this god-given trait- you either have it or you don’t. The belief is that creativity is a birthright and is something that simply cannot be taught. However, I see creativity as a renewable resource that can be taught at any time.

Creativity is essentially the process of creating new ideas. It has become ever important in the industry today because of its ever changing environment to think of the “next big thing” and keep a competitive edge. Generating new ideas can be quite challenging because most people find it difficult to get beyond obvious solutions. To be truly creative, significant effort is required.

I honestly believe that every person is naturally creative, but like other skills, some people have more talent than others. However, everyone has the ability to increase this creative ability, given enough training and practice. With the right tools and techniques, an environment can be built to help foster innovation.

Creativity is often stereotyped as not being important and that it can’t be learned. However, it is actually one ofthe most important skills to master. With higher levels of creativity, instead of seeing problems, we see opportunities and instead of challenges, we create solutions. Within any industry, we invent the future every single moment, thus these skills can be learned.
