有人曾经错误地认为农业不需要太多的高科技。而事实上，农业的机械化和现代化，对于一个国家的经济是有着关键性的重大意义的。

不好译文：Someone thoughtby mistakethat agriculturewas not necessary tohave much hi-tech. In fact, agricultural mechanization and modernizationhave crucially important significance tothe economy of a nation.

较好译文:Some peoplemistakenlythought that agriculturedid not needmuch hi-tech. In fact, agricultural mechanization and modernization areof crucial importance toa nation's economy.

☎讨论：

➀“有人”：

someone（used to mean a person, when you do not know or do not say who the person is），只能指一个人，而汉语中的“有人”，显然是不止一个人，所以应该改成some people。

➁“曾经以为”

翻译成过去时的动词thought即可；

➂“错误地”

by mistake是“由于错误的原因”的意思，在这里并不确切。这里的“错误地”应当翻译成mistakenly，wrongly，或incorrectly;

➃“农业不需要太多的高科技”

necessary(something that is necessary is what you need to have or need to do)表示某物对某事是必需的，比如：Food is necessary for life，不是某事必需某物，不能说出：Life is necessary to have food，因此，agriculturewas not necessary tohave much hi-tech 应该改成 it is not necessary for agriculture to have much hi-tech。

➄“是有着关键性的重大意义”

建议采用"be of..."的结构表达“是有着......的”，比have要地道得多；“关键性的 重大意义”事实上只要翻译成crucial importance就可以，不需要说出crucially important significance；这样就可以成了：are of crucial importance to...
