CC1-Toastmaster, New Wade Coming

Do you know who is Wade? I don’t think so. I don’t think the version of Wade in your mind is same as the person who I know well. Wade is a famous basketball player in the NBA. My favorite sport is basketball and the basketball player I like best is Wade. So I gave me an English name-Wade. I was born in Linyi, Shandong province. I graduated from Qingdao University of Technology in 2016. I had been leading a life in Shandong province for 24 years. Until the September in 2016, I was admitted in Dalian University of Technology as a postgraduate. Now I am a sophomore postgraduate and my major is Structural Engineering. As you know, I am a science geek. So I want to become a confident public speaker and an excellent English speaker.

When I was a senior in university in 2016, I visited a toastmasters club for the first time following my good friend Parker. In that meeting, I had a chance to make a self-introduction on the stage. Before I made  self-introduction, I wanted to give more information about me to the audience. But when I stood on the stage, I was so nervous as if I forgot anything. I only spoke three sentences: My name is Wade. I am a senior in Qingdao University of Technology. That’s all, thank you. What a pity! I had wasted so nice a chance! Then I backed to my seat and tried to listen carefully the whole meeting.

This experience is so embarrassing. However, I found the TM is an amazing and magical place. Its atmosphere and meeting process attracted me mostly and I wanted to know it better. So when I came to Dalian, I wanted to find a TM club to have a deeper understanding of it. After asking Parker, finally I found Dalian No.1 TM club. Then I often came here as a guest.

My favorite section is Table Topic section in TM. Due to lack of courage, I often miss opportunities in the life. Every time the section begins, I feel excited and my heart beats faster. I want to put up my hand bravely to join it. It is a wonderful chance for me to enhance my courage. I still remember: the first time I hesitated to put up my hand to join the Table Topic. Although I behaved so badly, I stood on the stage in the end. And the second time is just a little better than the first time.

I found no one was criticizing or laughing at me even if I messed up my opportunity. At the same time, I would receive supportive feedback from other members. And I thought it cool. TM is a good place where I can renew myself by losing my old and shy self. How wonderful it is, I enjoy myself while being in this environment, it’s encouraging and positive. I’d like to congratulate myself. I believe I will be better and better along my journey of toastmasters.
