A Journey Back to “BELIEFS”

《勿忘初衷，與君共勉》

ISSUEⅠ: Believe in Possibility and Change

I like the sense of innovation. In this journey, the most impressive thing is that I got so much information that related to pioneering projects, which conducted by the NGOs to help the residents in community to help themselves. Again, I come to definitely realize that not only people themselves are their perfect Savior. And what is much important, the first time I know that social worker could and should undertake the responsibility of “Creating a More Gentle World (來自動漫<叛逆の魯魯修:創造一個溫柔的世界>). To be honestly, I always confused by what can I do as I Chinese social worker. This moment I would like to share a little passion on the present major—social work because I see the possibility that social worker can do find the tailor-made solutions to help someone; I see the human nature that everyone has the tendency/willingness to change. A little exaggerated, may be a little stupid, but it is my true feeling in my dream heart.

ISSUEⅡ: Believe in People and Community

As a girl who always lack a sense of security and trust, I was shocked by the high enthusiasm, strong self-initiative, and the gratitude of /from the clients in a community. I like the words one social worker emphasized, “what can we do is making people’s needs to meaningful things”, which is the most directed and effective way to stimulate people’s motivation of change. Most importantly, except the powers of people self’s voice, the community is the most resourceful kingdom. A social worker could and should play the role of “mining”, find the strengths that the community had have and will have, and transfer the strengths in to “hope”, and then the “reality”. I believe the truth that people have the essence of choosing the “the truth, the morality, the beauty (真善美)”. Social worker could be a guidance to help them to understand themselves, both their nature as a human and their power, and then help themselves. The impressive example is that people in two communities, actively participate in protecting their local culture, which was respected as their life culture. Strong sense of belongings and strong self-consciousness, I do love and respect.

ISSUE Ⅲ: Believe in the “Future” of Social Work and “Self”

I have a strong feeling that social work in Chinese society is a “fairly tale”. I fear the uncertain destiny about the social work, and my investment in social work.

I choose it because a little bit of naught and insistence of my the pursuit of “the truth, the morality, the beauty (真善美)”. In the journey, uncounsciously, compared the social work between Mainland China and Hong Kong China, I come to get that social work in Mainland China in most place just like a “blank paper”, which still have much possibility to change and create. Social work is the embodiment of justice and the representative of grassroots, and it has a lot of reasons for being. And as for “self”, I mean, the God choose us to be a social workers, I believe that her arrangement have special meaning, and we should try our best to play our truth roles. I believe, we can help ourselves find the meaning of ourselves as social workers.
