therefor与therefore在意义上是不同.therefor是个副词,作“为此”(for that,for this,for it)解,用于正式语体,尤其是法律文件中:

　　　　1.He will be paid therefor.　他会为此得到报酬的.

　　　　2.My client did commit crime,but his motive therefor has not been established.(Crews)　我的当事人确实犯了罪,但是他犯罪的动机尚未确定.

　　　　therefore在词义上相当于thus,consequently,for that reason,as a result of that(因此,所以,结果).(and) therefore常用于连接两个并列的句,

therefore亦可用作从属连词的关联词:because...therefore,seeing(that)...therefore:

　　　　1.She went to a party and therefore did not study her lessons.(WBD)　她去参加了一个聚会,因而没去上课.

　　　　2.He was the only candidate; therefore he was elected.(WBD)　他是唯一的候选人,因此被选上了.

　　　　3.The novelist,therefore,has a special responsibility both to the present and the past of his country.(Fox)　因此,小说家对国家的现在和过去都负有特殊的责任.

　　请注意:在上面的句子里,therefore之前使用的是分号.如果与and连用,就可使用逗号或者不用标点符号:

　　　　1.He injured his leg and therefore could not play in the game.(MD)　他的一条腿受伤了,因此他未能参加比赛.

　　　　2.I decided not to buy the car,and therefore was not prepared to pay therefor.　我决定不买那辆车,所以就没准备为此付款.
