Flotation therapy is widely accepted in Europe and North America with its provenphysical and mental benefits. But do you know the story behind its beginning?

漂浮舱最初并不是为了发送这个目的而发明的，而是用来探索人类意识。如果一个人的感官被隔断，不能看、听、闻或尝，会发生什么？美国神经科学家John Lilly于1954年在“感官隔离舱”的基础上进一步发展出了漂浮舱。而隔离舱被军方用做审讯犯人的工具。

Float tanks were originally developed not as a method of relaxation, but to explore the nature of human consciousness. What would happen if all a person's senses were cut off? If they couldn't see, hear, feel, smell or taste anything? The flotation tank was developed in 1954 by John Lilly, an American neuroscientist. He further devised the first isolation tank, which was used by military forces for interrogating prisoners.

研究人员发现短时间漂浮，例如60到90分钟，会取得积极的效果。实验对象报告说感觉很放松、更有创造力，连睡眠也得到了提高。

However, research found that floating for 60 to 90 minutes, had the opposite effect of interrogation. People reported feeling relaxed, more creative, and slept better at night.

有差不多35年时间，漂浮舱仅仅是试验阶段，直到20世纪70年代，漂浮的概念才逐渐进入公众的视线。披头士主唱John Lennon曾说漂浮帮助他戒掉了成瘾症。从那时起，漂浮在世界范围内迎来了缓慢而稳健的发展。
