Sir Robert is the leading actor in this movie. He is the “ideal husband” not only in his wife’s mind, but also in others’ eyes. He and his wife are well-known people in politics, and they always attend some important parties that famous politicians and high social position people participate in. They lead a happy life which many people admire. The man is handsome and his wife is very beautiful. Meanwhile both of them play important role in politics. They always attend parties in pairs, and in others’ minds they are the golden couple. Sir Robert is perfect in his wifes eyes, and he tries his best to be perfect because he loves his wife very much. He can’t stand that his wife leaves him, so he does his best to be her “ideal husband”. However, as far as we are concerned, that there is no perfect man in the world. Everyone in the world would have some mistakes, small or big, so Sir Robert does.

When Sir Robert is a secretary, he makes a big fortune by divulge a secret. Then he gradually gets higher positions in politics. But unfortunately, this behavior is known by Mrs Cheveley. Mrs Cheveley threats Sir Robert to propose that scheme that builds a channel which could make interests for her. And if he doesn’t follow what she says, she would send the evidence to magazine to end his career. From these all things, we know that there also is corruption in politics. Sir Robert is one of the normal people. Like ordinary person, he also has dark side. Facing the temptation of money and higher position, he compromises to his desire. In order to still be the ideal husband in his wife’s mind, he tries his best to let his wife not know what he has done. This role is pretty vivid in this movie, which shows us nobody is perfect in the world。

Firstly, Sir Robert is good at sweet talking. He knows what to say to let his wife be happy. At the beginning of the movie, Sir Robert says that his everything owns to his wife, and without his wife’s love, he is nothing, in front of many famous person in that party. This action makes his wife very happy and shows his love to her. Therefore, I think Sir Robert is apt to mastering how to speak.

Secondly, he loves his wife very much. Apart from what he said in that party, we can know he loves his wife from different aspects. For example, he tries to hide his mistake that he made before. In his wifes mind, he is a perfect man, has no flaws. And she doesn’t believe that he could do something wrong. This give Sir Robert much pressure that he is unwilling to admit it. Although this behavior is immoral, this is also a reflection of his love to his wife, Gertrude. For he loves Gertrude very much and he is afraid of losing her, so he fears and tells Lord Goring not talk that to her wife. His figure in her wife’s eyes becomes burden to him. Sir Robert promises to Gertrude that there is nothing in my past that you might not know. This is also a reflection of his love. Gertrude says to Sir Robert that you have been an ideal always, be that ideal still. Gertrude puts too much on Sir Robert. For Sir Robert loves Gertrude, so he tries his best to be the figure who his wife wants him to be.

Thirdly, he also is a normal person. Like all of us, he could make mistakes and also has desires. Facing temptation, he can’t control himself as ordinary people do. When he was secretary, he made a big fortune by soling an important secret. In the front of money and power, people become dark without exception. His eyes also appear fears, when he is asked about his mistakes. He shows us no one is perfect. Although in others’ eyes he is a perfect man, in fact he also makes mistake that few people know it. This figure in the movie is very vivid. He is handsome and has high position in politics, but he also has limitations.

Finally, he is brave and justice. Facing Mrs Cheveley’s threats, he has fears because that letter could end his career and let him lose his wife. However, he knows if he follows what she says; it would bring damages, corruptions and loss to their government. He refuses firmly. Of course, he has hesitation for this behavior may bring big influence to his life. I am deeply touched by what he says in that debate. He says that a corrupt investor with nothing but self-control at heart. He bravely says out what he thought in his mind, although his proposal may be refused by most of the participants in that debate. He knows that building the channel is wrong action and it will do good nothing for his country. He chooses the country’s interests between his country’s interests and his interests. I think most people may choose the second, on earth, this choice could decide his late life. So I admire him for the decision he makes. Although he makes that mistake when he is young, now he does something good for his country. Therefore he is still a respectful person in my mind.

I appreciate him a lot. He is the true love of his wife. He bears much pressure from his wifes love, but he has no complaints. He shows us everyone would make mistakes, but finally he doesn’t compromise to his mistake. He makes a very grateful decision, although he knows that decision would end his career. In our daily life, you may think someone is perfect, but that figure is only you ideal. You only see the superficial thing, and you don’t totally know about him. On one in the world is perfect. From this movie, I learn to forgive others. Everyone can make mistakes, because we all are common person not the saint. Finally, I admire him very much that he has a very good friend, Arthur. His friend tries his best to help him, although he is misunderstood by Sir Robert. I appreciate their pure friendship.

Sir Robert is still the ideal husband in my mind, although he makes mistake when he is a secretary which lets him not perfect.
