单词

• roundabout
  复习一下，它既可以表示交通环岛，环形交叉路口，也可以表示 旋转木马，或者儿童旋转圆台，美式英语中为merry-go-round。

• vet
  兽医，美式英语中为veterinarian。

• tune
  作名词可以表示曲调，调子，主旋律。

• tuba
  大号(低音铜管乐器)。

• funfair
  (流动)游艺节，美式英语中多用carnival。英文解释为：A funfair is an event held in a park or field at which people pay to ride on various machines for amusement or try to win prizes in games.
     We all love to frighten ourselves by going on hair-raising rides at funfairs.
     我们都喜欢坐上游艺节惊险刺激的乘骑设施体验恐惧的乐趣。

• helter-skelter
  作名词可以表示(游乐场的)螺旋滑梯，如下图所示。

   拓展：
   它还可以作形容词，表示忙乱的，仓促的。

      最后期限到来前的匆忙赶工

• hook
  作名词可以表示钩子，也可以作动词表示钓鱼。
     At the first cast, I hooked a huge fish.
     第一次抛下钓线，我就钓了一条大鱼。

   拓展：
   hook还可以表示“使参与，使涉足”，英文解释为：If you are hooked into something, or hook into something, you get involved with it.
      I'm guessing again now because I'm not hooked into the political circles...
      我现在又是在猜测了，因为我没有涉足政界。

短语

• wait sb's turn
  等着轮到某人。
     You'll just have to wait your turn (= wait until your turn comes).
     *你得等着轮到你才行。 *

• roll up
  复习一下，一般用来招徕客人，表示“快来呀！ 快来看"，也类似于我们在集市上听到的“瞧一瞧，看一看呀！”

• have a go
  复习一下，相当于have a try，意思时尝试一下。
     ' I can't open this drawer.' 'Here, let me have a go .'
     “我打不开这个抽屉。” “来，让我试试看。”

• for a good cause
  为了公益事业，为了行善，处于好意，英语解释为：If you say that something is in a good cause or for a good cause, you mean that it is worth doing or giving to because it will help other people, for example by raising money for charity.
     The Raleigh International Bike Ride is open to anyone who wants to raise money for a good cause.
     想要为公益事业筹集资金的人都可以参加雷利国际自行车比赛。
     I didn't like lying but I consoled myself that it was for a good cause.
     *我不愿意撒谎,但我安慰自己那是出于好意。 *
