进阶篇

我比较熟悉它的名词用法以及名词用法,表示“复合(的)”。原来它还有动词用法:“使恶化;使复杂化;加重”,可以用来替代exacerbate。

比如在桌上说这个事真是错上加错,可以说:

He compounded his mistake by announcing it to the whole table.

这儿的医疗体制使问题进一步恶化,可以说:

The problem is compounded by the medical system here.

额外的流血和牺牲只会加重这场悲剧,可以说:

这个词在Principles: Life and Work这本书里出现了6次,而且全是动词用法。看来我低估了它的普及程度。
