Mathematics is the science of patterns.
Algebraic patterns can often be translated into equivalent geometric patterns.
Combinatorics advances mostly by thousands of small steps rather than by a few big ones.
The importance of a problem is relative to each researcher's experience, intuition, and personal way of structuring knowledge.

Some tricks:

• Not having a TV set or a cell phone.
• Write the drafts in pencil because I can type faster than I can think.
• Schedule interactions with others, instead of being randomly interruptible.
• Try to be working on only one thing at a time, rather than "swap-in-swap-out".
• It is not a coincidence.
