When Stahler learned about Hepburn's two great records, he seemed to see a ray of light in the darkness and decided to study it further. He thought,Maybe we'll get a break from her.

He dug up newspapers from the 1960s and found all the stories about Hepburn. Hepburn, for example, took eight years off acting, which was unprecedented in Hollywood history. Remember, back then, a year off as a movie star was the equivalent of the Rockefellers mothballing an oil well in Tennessee, and the damage was tangible.
