Concrete jungle
Skyscrapers, high rise residential communities, cubicles in towering buildings, constructions of many stories…
Merchants would exploit more and more communities by the seaside, in remote areas along coastlines with a patch of pure sky and broad sea. Businessmen engaged in real estate, would confine an ancient fishing village for construction of several communities, a large school, and a grand shopping complex which was left vacant for several years.
On construction of a new community, the construction team would imprint vivid captions on the wall surrounding a large area of land, requsting us to hold a forgiving attitude all the time during the construction period. Nevertheless, the air would turn dusty, the trunks would crank each night transporting full loads of earth dug from the site. The disturbing sound would last for a whole night!
Some land was encircled several years without construction, where ruffled wild grasses grew densely and broken stones scattered. Some land was reserved and invested by millionaires, most villas not occupied. Only a guard and several dogs guarded the place.
Find a quiet corner just for a nice sleep, without any noise for a whole night and keeping quiet for a whole day? That sounds like a fantasy among serene turrets of soft clouds. It would require much patience to look for such residence. Even if it seems that one has found such a living quarter, it would be probable that the peaceful surroundings were just temporary enjoyment. Real estate practationers would devise new plans for exploiting the new land. Residents would long for the rise of housing prices, so that they would earn heaps of money overnight without working.
Dream of living in a spacious hall free of charge? The castle in wanderland. The designers would calculate proper square meters for an appartment, and every inch of land is gold. Driven by interests, most companies would not build one room small appartment for the bachelors or for the poor, to save their expenses. Two room appartments with a hall are common. For a great proportion of young people or families, they can only afford the first payment and then pay the installment each month. An investment for tomorrow, sellers would say, and enjoy large space presently. However, while enjoying the bright rays in the living room, and opening the window to let in some dusty air of the new construction site, the owner would not call herself a true owner, with a burden of debt in her mind. Sell this one and change for a cheaper one? That would be time consuming. Confine in this cozy spiral hard shell like a soft snail? Restricted in daily expense, saving every penny. Earn lots of money? Fill the hole of debt, and invest a new small apartment at the seaside? More and more people would follow this route, and more unknown realms of purity would face exploision. The sea coast would be littered with plastic bags and the sunflower seed shells would be buried among warm sands.
Human desire in the concrete jungle. Human desire would expand, driven by economic interest. Human living quarters would extend from downtown, (polluted, the air condensed with car waste gas and uncomfortable particles), to cleaner areas with sparse population. Then the new town would turn dusty, when more cars are driving on the avenue. When people realize this, they would construct villas in a place with clean air, advertising the new place as a haven with the best air…And expecting to gain more profit overnight…
In an expension of time in millions of years, and in a scope of universe, would humans of the future generations over exploit the planet? Would the sea coast be occupied with lots of people and littered all along? Would the price of land soar? Would the climate turn dusty all day long, even if the slogen of environment protection is conducted, and some small areas of forests are preserved? Would human activity infringe the layers of atmosphere above? Then where would humans live? On another planet? Continue to exploit the new land?
Our current scope of knowlege suggests that we have solely one precious planet among the sea of multiple trillions of stars, in Milky Way Galaxy or even beyond in the further galaxys. Hopefully, earth residents would not have to leave their home planet in the spaceship to the bewildering and hollow space, with their last look on a planet of concrete jungles and ruins of nuclear waste.
