翻译小技巧

无灵主语+有灵谓语

1.将时间，地点作为主语，常用find，see等做谓语

well on the road(程度副词)

The lake finds/welcomes lots of tourists.

2.主语是情感状态的抽象名词，谓语选择creep, strike, seize, dawn, catch, worm into, grip, enter, register, overcome, take possession of, give way to, desert, pass, tear, prey upon

Scary preyed upon the whole village's mind.

His courage viporated.

Courage deserted him.

他没有了勇气

Now, optimism fall to/reduced to suspicion.

(变化——贬义:fall to/reduce to

中性: give way to)

他焦虑万分，肝肠寸断。

Anxiety tore him into pieces.

不寒而栗

chill to the bones

a chill of fear/terror/horror suddenly seize /take possession of him

3.主语是具有动词意味的名词，谓语选择fill，give, make, bring.

看到这孤寂的景象，我心中满是凄凉。

“的景象”在中文中使用非常普遍，属于“宏观概括”的那一种词，并没有实际上的意义，所以翻译成英语时要省去，与此相对应的是“微观具体”，所以翻译上有一个原则“舍宏观概括，取围观具体”。

所以这句话的翻译是: The sight of the desolution filled me with forlornness.

4.主语是“条件，状态，原因等”，灵活选择谓语

我要不是能干重活，早被解雇了

My capacity to do the hard work saved me from early dismissal.

你早点出发的话，中午就能到

Your early start will get you there at the noon.

His addition completed the list.

The old house in the deserted lane gave a dismal picture/a picture of desolation.
