《圣经》典故之三十七：肉中刺

Thorn in the flesh  肉中刺，比喻烦恼的根源。

出自《新约·哥林多后书》12章 （Corinthians 12:7）。原文：And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 又恐怕我因所得的启示甚大，就过於自高，所以有一根刺加在我肉体上，就是撒但的差役，要攻击我，免得我过于自高。

很生动的比喻。肉中有刺，让人不舒服，而这里引申为烦恼的根源也是自然而然的事情。

我们的文化中，也有“肉中刺”的说法，不过经常与“眼中钉”一起使用。比如，我们说一个人是眼中钉、肉中刺，通常是指这人是招恨的，也可以说是一大烦恼。这也可以说是东西方文化的相通处吧。总归都是令人难受的。
