Application for Volunteer Work

Dear English Police,

Hope this letter finds you well.

I saw your post on Sina Weibo and I am interested in the volunteer work. If possible, I want to volunteer my services as an English instructor. If there is no current need for volunteers in this position, I am willing to donate my time in another needed capacity.

In fact, I am your big fan and I keep staying attuned to the Nanchang Project. The stories about adopted kids who are desperate to find their birth parents touched me a lot. I think, it is partly because I am a sensitive person and I, like many Asian people, believe in sth called karma. The strive to find their origins and the will to complete the missing part of the puzzle bewitches me all the time. Love and understanding soar across the Pacific Ocean and turn strangers into families.

So when I first saw your posting for volunteers, I determined that I wanted to be part of the project. Because I can and will make a difference. First, I was and am an English major. Now I am pursuing my graduate study. As a English learner, I know that language can break the wall and bridge the gap. It is worthwhile to build the bridge of English between the long-lost families. Second, as a small-town girl, I feel fortunate enough to have my supporting family and friends. I dare not to take all for granted because of the sacrifice and support they have given to me. However, many kids in rural areas are not so lucky. If I could use what I have learned and help those kids with their English learning, it would be so rewarding.

Thank you for reviewing my application. I would be very pleased if I could make my contribution to the project.

Yours sincerely,
