Inequality

        1. teachers know more. teachers superior.

        2. but students know more teachers and go to more classes. so they may evaluate the teachers very well. students anticipate teachers to be organized (no chaos in class), well-informed, and enthusiastic. let the students have room 

        3. to be liked by the students? side effect actually. not the goal. only be liked because of your great teaching

Office hours

        1. always make times (if the stu cannot make time during ordinary office hours, ask him or  her to arrange another meeting outside ordinary times via email or phone)

        2. need prof's time most before the ddl!!

        3. best/weakest students go to the office most

Letter of rec

        1. got to be a little insincere.... (so decide early on your principles)

        if students have really bad works, say I won't give you a letter. don't lie.

        Students shouldn't be afraid of asking!! The teachers repay the people who offered him or her letters in the past.

Don't let the students tell about their private lives!!!!

        1. bf and gf as excuses? no.

        say "stop. stop." I can't help. 

        2. encouraging vs personal relationship

        3. keep the focus on learning

Lunch

        1. talk nothing about the class! only the sports, the book you've read, the games.....

        2. never show preference, but show interest in them (learn names, write letters, lunch..)

Students may misunderstand (a lot)

        1. if you feel you're being hero worshiped, or seduced by the students, make the inequality clear verbally and in writing as well.

        2. but the hero worship can be used to encourage the students!

Try to get to know what the students want!

        1. if good, gratify them
