It must have been about two in the morning when I returned home. My wife slept so
deeply that I could not wake her up by ringing the doorbell. In order to get into the
bedroom, I had to clime up the ladder moved from the shed in the garden. I was almost
astounded to fall off the ladder when I saw the policeman who sneered at my efforts.
The policeman told me that he didn't think the windows need cleaning at that time of
the night. Thought I immediately regretted answering in the way I did, I insisted that I
enjoyed cleaning windows at night. At this, the policeman politely asked me to come
to the station with him. I then told him that I'd prefer to stay him because I had forgotten
my key. The policeman shouted at me. Fortunately, the shouting woke up my wife who
opened the window just as the policeman had started to climb towards me.
