独立寒秋，湘江北去，橘子洲头。

In late autumn, I stood alone at the head of Orange Islet, the Xiangjiang River flowing northward.

看万山红遍，层林尽染；

All mountains had become red, and row upon row of trees looked dyed;

漫江碧透，百舸争流。

The river was clear and bright, big ships rushing forward.

鹰击长空，鱼翔浅底，万类霜天竞自由。

Eagles cleaved the sky, fish swimming in the clear water, all creatures competing for freedom in frosty weather.

怅寥廓，问苍茫大地，谁主沉浮？

Facing the vast universe I melancholy sighed: who should dominate the ups and downs of this vast land?

携来百侣曾游，忆往昔峥嵘岁月稠。

Recalling the extraordinary years of the past, I used to roam here with lots of my schoolmates.

恰同学少年，风华正茂；

We students were just in the prime of our youth

书生意气，挥斥方遒。

Filled with the scholar’s enthusiasm, we were passionate and energetic.

指点江山，激扬文字，粪土当年万户侯。

Commenting on state affairs by writing articles of criticism or praise, we regarded those warlords and bureaucrats as dirt

曾记否，到中流击水，浪遏飞舟？

Do you still remember that the waves we made almost blocked the speeding boat when swimming in the middle of the river?

1）寒秋： 深秋

2）层林尽染： 一层层的树林经霜变红，像染过一样。

3）舸： 大船。

4）争流： 争着行驶。

5）万类： 指一切生物。

6）霜天： 指深秋。

7）怅寥廓： 面对广阔的宇宙惆怅感慨。寥廓：空阔高远。

8）主： 主宰。

9）沉浮： 兴衰。

10）百侣： 很多的伴侣。侣，这里指同学或战友

11）峥嵘岁月稠： 不平常的日子是很多的。峥嵘，山势高峻，这里是不平凡的意思。稠，多。

12）恰： 适逢，正赶上。

13）风华正茂： 风采才华正盛。

14）书生： 读书人，这里指青年学生。

15）意气： 意志和气概。

16）挥斥方遒： 挥斥，奔放；方：正；遒，强劲有力。

17）指点： 评论。

18）江山： 指国家。

19）激扬： 激浊扬清，抨击恶浊的，褒扬善良的。

20）粪土： 作动词用，视……如粪土。

21）万户侯： 汉代设置的最高一级侯爵，享有万户农民的赋税。此借指大军阀，大官僚。

22）中流： 江心水深流急的地方。

击水： 游泳。

23）遏： 阻止。
