Your selection indicates the faculty's recognition of your accomplishments and of your promise in your field. Graduate Education, Professional Training, and Financial Aid
Doctoral students at Yale normally complete their degrees in five to six years. They begin graduate education with coursework, as determined by their program of study. Learning to teach is also regarded as fundamental to the education of all graduate students and is essential to their professional development. Therefore, all BBS students are required to serve as teaching fellows for two terms. Teaching duties normally involve assisting in laboratories or discussion sections and grading papers. BBS students are not expected to teach during their first year of graduate study.
To support you in your progress towards your degree, we are pleased to award you a financial aid package that will cover the cost of your tuition ($42,100) and will provide you a stipend of at least $35,850 per year while you are enrolled. The package provides twelve months of support each year, and begins on August 31, 2018. You will receive your support from the China Scholarship Council-Yale World Scholars Fellowship in years one and two. In year three, your support will be provided by either the BBS or the Graduate School. In later years, your support will be provided by your laboratory and department. We are looking forward to your participation in the CSC-Yale World Scholars program, which will provide extraordinary training opportunities for you. Please note that this offer is contingent upon your acceptance of the fellowship from the CSC and that all stipends, fellowships, and teaching assignments are contingent on satisfactory academic progress. A strong command of English is essential for success at Yale. Your score on the English language proficiency test is below the Graduate School's oral English proficiency standard. Therefore, you are required to attend the Academic Language program prior to the start of your academic classes. This three-week Yale Summer Academic Language Program is held on the Yale Campus and begins on August 1, 2018. The Graduate School will cover the cost of the program and provide three weeks of stipend support to help cover your living expenses. Additional coursework may be required until you meet the oral English proficiency standard as described in the Programs and Policies

Health Care and Family Support
We are pleased to provide all registered Ph.D. students with comprehensive health care coverage through Yale Health <http://yalehealth.yale.edu/>, at no charge, including primary care and Hospitalization/Specialty Coverage and prescription coverage. If a student elects health care coverage for a spouse at Yale Health, the Graduate School will provide half of the cost of coverage for the Two- Person Plan.
We also provide generous support for Ph.D. students with children, which includes health care coverage for dependent children. In addition, Ph.D. students are eligible to receive $4,500 to help support a child of any age, plus an additional subsidy of $1,000 for each additional child under the age of six. Students may use this supplement to pay the additional premium cost of a spouse under the Family Health Plan, or to cover the costs of child care or other family expenses.
