Conclusion or Overview

1. Do I need a Conclusion for Task 1?

• 不。通常我们给 Task 1 写Overview, 给 Task 2 写Conclusion。
• Task 1 太短，不应当有任何重复信息的过程。

2. What is an Overview?

• 一个段落，包含：
  • 图表中的重要元素
  • 你的一句总结

---

3. Is the Overview important?

• 至关重要。对应于“写作任务完成情况”，权重占到小作文的25%。
• 若无Overview，你的此项得分不会超过5分。

4. Can I write both?

• 不。Overview中已有全部重要信息，因此Conclusion对于这些关键点仅仅只是重复而已。
• 这会被认为是在写重复的信息凑字数。

5. Where can I put it?

• 通常在介绍后面，但也可放在最后。
• 建议放在Introduction后面。

怎么看图

1. 注意题干中的文字

The chart shows the expenditure of two countries on consumer goods in 2010.

• 这是雅思给你的，有关于这张图究竟要你怎么理解的提示。

2. 看两个坐标轴

• 此题中，
  • 竖轴为所花的金钱
  • 横轴为不同类型的消费品

3. 看旁边的图例

• 此题中，
  • 蓝色为法国
  • 红色为英国

怎么写作

1. Introduction

• 用自己的语言，复述题干中的信息。例如：

The chart illustrates the amount of money spent on 5 consumer goods (cars, computers, books, perfume and cameras) in France and in the UK in 2010.

• 不要改变类别，Chart 就是 Chart，而不是 Table、Graph 。同时，不是所有词都需要改，因为有的词并不能在英语当中找到很好的替代。
  • 可以改动词，例如这里将shows改成了illustrates。你也可以用任何别的什么词例如gives information about。
  • 可以改宾语，如这里将expenditure改为了the amount of money spent。
  • 认为consumer goods属于专有名词/术语，不用改变。但是增加了5这个数字。
  • 引入具体信息，将cars, computers, books, perfume and cameras五项分别在括号中列出。小括号在 Task 1 中尤其好用。
  • two countries具体写为了France and UK。
  • 2010 这个时间照抄。
• 注意，这里的文字中虽然没有提到单位，但是图中显示出来的是所有都以英镑计算。因此加入Units are measured in pounds sterling。这句是被动语态，“考官看了很开心”（emmm你意会一下这里Liz的意思就好）。
• 完整的 Introduction 如下：

The chart illustrates the amount of money spent on 5 consumer goods (cars, computers, books, perfume and cameras) in France and in the UK in 2010. Units are measured in pounds sterling

• 一般来说，Introduction 由一句话或者两句话构成，不能超过两句话。

2. Overview

• 最重要的一个部分/段落。
• 应当包含，并突出所有关键点。
• 没有 Overview 的作文将不会超过5分。
• 以此题为例：
  • 最高点：
    • 英国是cars；
    • 法国也是cars。
  • 最低点：
    • 英国是perfume；
    • 法国是cameras。
  • 总体上：
    • 英国比法国总消费高。

• 最终，写 Overview。

Overall, the expenditure of the UK was higher than that of France. Both the French and the British spent the most monty on cars, while in the UK the least amount of money was spent on perfume compared to cameras in France.

• 使用明显的Overall来使考官注意到这里是 Overview 部分。
• 会经常使用比较级。
• 适当的变型，例如此处将国家变为国籍名称后，对句子做相应调整。
• 最高级也可以有适当的使用。
• 通常有2-4个关键点，偶尔会是5个。

3. Body Paragraph A/B

• 应该分段。
  • 合理分段能体现你的 组织能力 与 段落使用，此项占总分25%。只有一段的话，连贯性 与 连续性 上很难拿高分。
• 注意逻辑。
• 下面是两种分段

• 分段思路(i)
  • Body Paragraph A: Cars, Perfume, & Cameras.
    • 最高点与最低点是Cars，Perfume和Cameras。
  • Body Paragraph B: Computers & Books.
    • 除去最高点与最低点之外的两项Computers + Books。

• 分段思路(ii)
  • Body Paragraph A: Cars, Books, & Cameras.
    • 英国比法国高的是Cars，Books和Cameras。
  • Body Paragraph B: Computers & Perfume.
    • 英国比法国低的是Computers和Perfume。

• 这两者都相当不错，没有高下之分。

• 举例：汽车和书籍这两种

In terms of cars, the UK spent around £450,000 on this as opposed to exactly £400,000 in France. The expenditure on books in the UK was higher than in France (about £400,000 and £300,000 respectively).

• 开门见山In terms of cars点明是在讲Cars。
• 由于图上旁边在£400,000和£500,000之间没刻度，不能确定是精确的£450,000，因此不写精确的£450,000，而是说around £450,000。
• as opposed to是一个不错的连词。
• 比较级的引入。
• 即使如同这里的was higher than那样有比较，但是没有数据，也很难上5分。这里是可以把数据写在括号里的。
• respectively意味着括号里的两个数字和文中顺序一致。
• 雅思 Task 1 当中欢迎使用符号，包括但不限于：
  • 货币
  • 百分比
  • etc.

• 不常见但是的确会出现。

1. Basic Vocabulary

• 基本的 Compass Points （东西南北）
  • East
  • West
  • South
  • North

B is located north east of Dartford
B is situated ...
B lies ...
B is ...

2. The Key

• 图例中用的是首字母大写的形式，但是我们写的时候要换成小写。
• 不必执着于把图例里面的词全换掉，有时候有的词根本没法换。

可用的替换：

housing area	town center	roads
residential area	city center (WRONG)	streets (WRONG)
	center of the town

3. Roads and Rail

The railway runs through Dartford from north to south.
...crosses...
...passes though...
...goes though...

• 对道路、主干道等，上述动词依旧适用。

4. Population

• 不是所有地图都会给出人口，但是如果给出，就应该写在作文里。

• The population of Dartford is 60,000.
• B is located north east of Dartford, which has a population of 60,000.
• Dartford has 60,000 inhabitants.
• There are 60,000 people lives in Dartford.

5. Model

这是一个示例：

A is located in the town center which has a railway running through it. B is situated north east of Dartford just outside the housing area.
