Mowing#Robert Frost-

There was never а sound beside thewood but one,

And that was my long scythe

whispering to the ground.

What was it it whispered? I knew notwell myself;

Perhaps it was something about theheat of the sun,

Something, perhaps, about the lack ofsound -

And that was why it whispered anddid not speak.

lt was no dream of the gift of idlehours,

Or easy gold at the hand of fay or elf:

Anything more than the truth wouldhave seemed too weak

To the earnest love that laid the swalein rows,

Not without feeble- -pointed spikes offlowers

(Pale orchises), and scared a brightgreen snake.

The fact is the sweetest dream thatlabor knows.

My long scythe whispered and left thehay to make.
