“What is Amazing”(读书笔记)
People think about the poem, people think poem is fancy way to tell the story. If the write have good idea, they need find way to deliver what they think to the reader. Writer uses the words that crate image to support writer’s idea about human’s love story. Also people read poem could understanding how writer represent a sad moment or happy thing, like the happiness in the beginning of the poem. Heather Christle’s poem book What is Amazing central themes are focus on human’s live. Especially in her poem “And then we clap ourselves together, she give a lot detail for progression of love to support her idea:
"This person walks off \to have a think / in the thinking place / the circle / it’snot a manhole / you always think it’s a manhole / sometimes our shadows are wrong / my shadow is of a staircase/ but I am just moat / I am looking at a man/ and I am looking at his shadow / scratching madly all over / his shadow is o fa king / he has been poisoned / and inside I can feel my blood/ it is shining /not in the name of love/ in the name of cold glamour / and now the man has stopped/ and keeps driving his truck/through the residential are/ and I keep driving my car/ on past the graveyard/ the light is red / my appetite glistens / Oh sweet is the rain not arriving / and green is my overdrawn heart "(Christle 38).
She writes the image to tell a story of one woman who has a crush on a man, but he “keeps driving his truck/through the residential are” she uses double meaning of “driving” to tell the story of the a man driving a car, the underlying he is so cold and keep “driving” and “poisoned” women. If we didn't try to make sense what underlying meaning, it looks likes a beautiful of love story. Her love story in special way to tell reader a problem of the world a man faithless and irresponsible of the men in love. This poem represents women’s life by metaphors way, she uses this sentence to show reader “and I keep driving my car/ on past the graveyard”. Christle’s poem uses sensory details and important word to connection with reader, in fact “graveyard” is special word to means women struggle through their difficulties life with men. “his shadow is of a king” as we know “king” this word is powerful, it means men have power to control women’s lives,her poem emotionally repeats a symbolic sentence to response within the reader.
I like her poem writing style, her words have deep meaning what she wants to show reader, nature world rain to instead reader about human’s feeling, such as “Oh sweet is the rain not arriving”, most the time in the story rain means tear or something bad happened. Most importantly her poem end up with her hope to visualize what she talk about, “and green is my overdrawn heart”.The word “green” symbolizes spring has arrived; in other words, life begins.
Christle’s poem is good example for me to learn how to write a poem. I think her idea come from everyday of her life in to a poem. That’s the way I get idea for my poem. I have a lot of struggle time with my ideas crashing with each other.This kind of problem I face every day, I like to learn make the dessert. When the warm cake and bread fresh from the oven, it makes the whole house smells sweet, and brings the good memory. Food is a part of the culture for family reunion, I have all of the detail of the daily life I could write in my poem. But, my problem is I don’t know how to use sensory detail to visualize my personal idea in to a poem. How to clearly shows reader Chinese culture is always very challenge for me. I always wonder if I can write a poem on the theme of food to show celebrate Chinese New Year, that will be good. As we know food is certainly an indispensable element to celebrate the Chinese New Year, I want to show reader how food is part of people’s life, and culture is so important.
