KEEP THESE SONG LISTS AND IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH LISTENING SKILL

I get used to have a check of what's new on MIX every time I go to Netease. And I will go through each song on it and classify them according to level of difficulty and put them in the corresponding list named GRADE 1 to GRADE 5. Each number refers to a level. The bigger the number is, the more challenging it will be.

GRADE 1

SLOW IN SPEED, CLEAR VOICE FROM THE SINGER, WITH LYRICS YOU COULD UNDERSTAND WITHOUT TEXT WHEN YOU HERA IT FOR THE FIRST TIME

This is a list friendly to you since you don't need to struggle through to know what the singer is singing. And it is like listening to a polite English old man speaking elegantly slow just try to make everything clear and easy for you. Your listening will be improve a lot in this part when you are exposing yourself relaxedly and burden free in the English song which is not effort taking.

GRADE 2

MEDIUM SPEED, FEW WORDS IN EACH LINE, ABLE TO KNOW WHAT IT IS ABOUT WHEN YOU HEAR IT FOR A SECOND TIME

This list is a step forward compared with GRADE 1. And you have a faster speed of rhythm to follow and greater difficulty to deal with. It is like talking to someone with normal speed in English, where some of the details may escape you at first but you find that you can get the hang of it after listening again consciously focusing on what you have missed just now.

GRADE 3

FAST SPEED IN RHYTHM THAT YOU COULD CATCH UP WITH, SONG WITHOUT RAP, WITH 80% LYRICS IDENTIFIED AND UNDERSTANDABLE TO YOU WHEN YOU HEAR IT FOR THE 3RD TIME

We should go through something with the level a little bit higher than we could reach to give our potential a real push. And that's why we need to stick with GRADE 3. Don't be shy to admit that you cannot understand it well for the first time. You need to include something hard for you in your list so you will know how far you could still reach and what you could achieve standing on your tiptoe.

GRADE 4

WITH PARTIAL RAP, RHYTHM A LITTLE BIT FASTER THAN THE ONE YOU COULD CATCH UP WITH, SOME WORDS OR LITERARY QUOTATION IN SONG THAT YOU FAIL TO CATCH UP WITH AT THE VERY BEGINNING

This list may be a leap for you from comfort zone to the challenging area. If you have trouble catching up with English spoken in a speedy way, listen to the list, one song for more than five times until you know what it is about. We got confused in the conversation with foreigners not because of the vocabulary hard to understand but that it is spoken in a way faster than you could follow, or it sounds unfamiliar to you with some liaison or skim. Just mind how the lyrics sound in songs in this list without referring to the text. Progress will show itself if you keep doing it long enough.

GRADE 5

WITH RAP THROUGHOUT THE SONG, LOUSY BACKGROUND MUSIC AND HIGH SPEED IN RHYTHM, VOICE VAGUE OR HARD TO BE IDENTIFIED

This list may kill your patience and energy in the very first since you will find what's unclear and nonsense to you remains unknown to you after several time of repeat. Hold on to it to witness the magic on you. You may find it is killing you when you have a speaker with heavy accent on the other side of the phone call, and you two are caught in a terribly bad line and horrible signal. It is exact the case when you hear the rap in high speed and strong accent. So be patient and trying to be familiar with the sound unfriendly alien to you, and you will be grateful when you come across the communication with unclear voice.

I will go over all the lists, give it a loop when I have the time. It will be list GRADE 1-2 when I am tired and want to be relaxed. Hearing the songs with more than 80% content within your comprehension in slow and soothing rhythm may keep your spirit high in learning English. GRADE 4-5 is for the moment that you want something challenging. You should deal with it with sharp mind and acute hearing, what's more important, energy to guarantee a motivated heart. So you'd better be with GRADE 4-5 when you are clear headed and enthusiastically energetic, say, morning for the early bird, or time before bed for the night cat. You should hear songs in GRADE 3 for most of the time. It is a little bit challenging but not that difficult to make you lose your patience and confidence. It is a little bit higher than your actual level but you could deal with it with a peaceful mind and a fighting will. The songs in list GRADE 3 should be updated frequently before you could master them thoroughly and recite them fluently. Every time you are about to do so, transfer the song into GRADE 2. Any songs used to be in list GRADE 4-5 could enter GRADE 3 if you get it familiar enough to sing along, and find some other new songs in the similar level to fill the blank of this list which means that you are a step further on the journey of improvement on English learning.

Keep your list updated instead of standing still, and you will see that you are moving from lower level to upper level, evolving from nothing to something.
