小文 | 外媒如何写“佛媛”？
大概一年以前，我们了解了“拼单名媛”。当时，我们还针对这个社会现象，写了一系列的社评翻译思路拆解：
今天，又一个新名词进入我们的视野：佛媛。
什么是“佛媛”？我第一次看到这个词的时候，脑海中想的是这样的：
百度了一下之后，发现是这样的：

第一个问题，什么是“佛媛”？
Known as foyuan — which loosely translates to “female Buddhist socialite” in English
粗略地翻译为"female Buddhist socialite"。
注意socialite这个词有时候是带点贬义的。
佛媛的具体行为是什么呢？
the women usually post photos, often in seductive poses and sometimes wearing revealing outfits, with some hoping to profit from advertisements and sell products related to Buddhist culture.
摆着撩人的姿势，身着暴露的衣服，一些人希望通过接广告或卖货赚钱。
seductive在形容人的时候是带着点sexually attractive，不过也可以形容想法、计划很吸引人：
The idea of retiring to the south of France is highly seductive. 退休后到法国南方去，这个主意令人心驰神往。
近义词tempting。
为什么要禁“佛媛”账号？
Buddhism is one of the five officially recognized religions in China, but its commercialization over the years has led to greater scrutiny to end such practices. In 2017, Chinese authorities banned religious profit-making activities, as well as prohibited the commercial operation of temples.
佛教是中国官方承认的五大宗教之一，但多年来，佛教逐渐商业化，对此，中国政府采取了更严厉的监管措施。2017年，中国政府禁止宗教营利活动，并禁止寺庙进行商业经营。
再反观佛媛利用佛教打造persona，吸引流量attract traffic再变现，不就是涉嫌参与religious profit-making activities么？
因此，几大官媒联手一起下场锤：
In the wake of the female Buddhist socialite trend, China’s influential state media outlets have banded together to denounce such behaviors.
band together表示：to form a group in order to achieve sth联合；携手，比如：
Local people banded together to fight the drug dealers. 当地人齐心协力打击毒品贩子。
outlet原意是“出口”，进而引申为“发挥或宣泄的途径”，比如：
She needed to find an outlet for her many talents and interests. 她的多才多艺、兴趣广泛需要找个施展的机会。
Sport became the perfect outlet for his aggression. 运动成为他攻击性心理的最佳出路。
我们也会经常看到media outlet(s)的用法，表示媒体，想象一下媒体通过这个outlet向外输出信息资讯，是不是也挺形象的？
顺便看看《工人日报》是怎么批佛媛的：“看似与世无争，实则物欲横流。”
while seemingly standing aloof from the world, they are in essence materialistic.
aloof一般不放在名词前。表示这种“脱俗”的还可以是free from worldliness/worldly cares。
