When I graduated from high school, I was in a confused state of mind. I had no idea what my next step was supposed to be, so I took a gap year. Later I read Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar. The main character, Esther, said, "I sat in the fig (无花果) tree, dying of hunger, just because I couldn't decide which fig I would choose. All the figs were beautiful with  possiblities and futures. I desired each one of them, but choosing one meant  losing all the rest. Istill couldn't make my decision until the figs began  to wrinkle and drop down.

I never resonated (产生共鸣) with something so much in my life. At every turn, I felt extremely anxity about each decision I made. What if I had not picked the tight  fig? Later, my professor told me that Esther's fi tree was the same as mine, but I didn't need to wai till the end. I just ought to pick one and follow it. Even if that choice  didn't work out, then I still had a chance to make another. I got my professor's words and that realization  brought me a sense of relief.

In my life, only a few choices were clearly  wrong or right; a lot were uncertain choices with no specific answer.  So instead of staring at a sea of choices with no idea, we can make decisions and take action first, and then reflect on  successes and failures. My professor told me, "There are hundreds of wonderful things one can achieve in their life. Just choose one and do it."And so I did.
