咱们“熟人哈1读书营”已经进行十多天了,聊天征询意见时,有小伙伴提出语言点讲的详细虽然好,却难免增添阅读的负担,减损了读书的兴味,那么从第四章起我尽量减少讲义篇幅、对非必要掌握内容不赘述(我有偏爱的词就任性讲一讲),同时作业布置上也尽量以趣味性为主,大家阅读中遇到问题可以随时群内沟通,有好的想法多多提出,感谢。

Vocabulary

一、重点单词:

The door was hit with such force that it swung clean off its hinges and with a deafening crash landed flat on the floor.

The giant squeezed his way into the hut, stooping so that his head just brushed the ceiling.

He strode over to the sofa where Dudley sat frozen with fear.
‘Budge up, yeh great lump,’ said the stranger.

  1. rasping voice:
    rasp: to make a rough unpleasant sound 发出刺耳的声音
    my father’s rasping voice
    我父亲刺耳的嗓音
  2. crinkle:
    you crinkle part of your face, or if it crinkles, you move it so that small lines appear on it (使)〔脸〕起皱纹
    His mouth crinkled into a smile.
    他咧嘴一笑。
    He smiled boyishly, crinkling his eyes.
    他眯起眼睛,笑得像个孩子。
  3. prune:
    informal an unpleasant or disagreeable person.
    "he was a good leader, but a miserable old prune"

    扩展:

  5. crouch: to lower your body close to the ground by bending your knees completely 蹲下;蹲伏

所以这个fat, juicy, slightly burnt sausages from the poker,看了以后有没有肚子咕咕叫?
(2) 扑克牌游戏

‘Yer great puddin’ of a son don’ need fattenin’ any more, Dursley, don’ worry.’

虽然一看这个句子就知道讲的啥意思,但就是想对应上,奈何这是第二个朗文找不到对应词义,但是苹果自带有的词。

The giant took a gulp of tea and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

  1. shrink:
    to move back and away from something, especially because you are frightened 〔尤指因恐惧而〕退缩,畏缩
    quail:
    to be afraid and show it by shaking a little bit or moving back slightly 害怕;畏缩 SYN shrink

‘Sorry?’ barked Hagrid, turning to stare at the Dursleys, who shrank back into the shadows.

A braver man than Vernon Dursley would have quailed under the furious look Hagrid now gave him; when Hagrid spoke, his every syllable trembled with rage.

  1. cower:
    to bend low and move back because you are frightened 〔由于恐惧而〕蜷缩;退缩,畏缩
    cower back/against/under etc
    He cowered against the wall.
    他蜷缩在墙根。

二、其他单词:

  1. skid: 参见昨日slip
  2. boom:
    SOUND: 声音 a deep loud sound that you can hear for several seconds after it begins, especially the sound of an explosion or a large gun 隆隆声
  3. smash:

  4. sag 不查是不是自己就能知道什么意思?

    British English spoken
