Reading different materials
In the last four days, I has been reading The fall of the house of Usher and Great Thinkers-Jane Austen. The former is a short gothic novel written by Ellen Poe while the latter is a collection of critics. For me, the former is more difficult than the latter one. I have never read horrible novels before. The point of portraying the event and the words of describing people’s reaction are totally new for me. I thought of a new way to read it. That is reading the Chinese version first. If I could write down those new words and keep them in mind, I would feel much easier to understand next time. Reading similar materials, novels, critics, essays, will help me grip a main idea.
I had the same confusion while reading linguistic books last month. I stopped reading it and tended to read romantic and historic novels again. Thus, I didn’t hold the chance of expanding my cognitive recognition. Next week I will try again and hope to achieve my own goal.
While reading the Great Thinkers-Jane Austen. I knew some new information of this quite famous writer. Jane Austen has a great ambition to guide people to agree with her morals but never demand it. Jane Austen reveals special views on marriage, money, merit and snobbishness. Elizabeth stands out by her audacious expression on equal love and respect. Though shy, quiet and normal, Fanny Price is the absolute symbol of merit. Emma, the unwittingly snobbish girl, recognizes her errors and thus outgrows to be a more charming lady. Jane Austen is a brave feminist.
