2023 is the Year of the Rabbit.

If the rabbit is your zodiac, then you may be 12, 24, 36, 48…, oh well you get the drift.

When a Chinese person asks for your sign, it’s a polite way of trying to find out your age, but they may also be looking to find out what kind of person you are, too.

In Chinese tradition zodiac signs are said to be able to give a glimpse into an individual’s personality.

Rabbits are said to be gentle, quiet, humble, courteous and meticulous.

In Chinese culture, rabbits have long been regarded as auspicious animals.

In ancient times, a white rabbit was said to symbolize the prosperity of the country.

The rabbit even has a prominent role in the story of the Moon Goddess.

The legend is so well-known in China that when China sent its first rover to the moon it was named Yu Tu (jade rabbit).

The rabbit appears in many Chinese folk stories, seen as strong and mighty in golden armor atop lions and elephants.

Gaining the title the Mighty Rabbit, it is worshipped particularly during Mid-Autumn Festival, the worshippers hoping to bring good luck and fortune into their lives.

Whether the rabbit is presented as gentle and sweet or strong and mighty, it is a constant representation of Chinese culture that for thousands of years has pointed to people’s yearning for kindness, peace, beauty and wellbeing.

Happy Year of the Rabbit!
