I'm writing concerning what I've learned about how to write effective emails. You could make a list to make it easy to read.
1. Make the subject line short, clear and concise.
2. Be polite. I would not suggest use emoticons or put any joke in a formal email. Because these may lead to misunderstanding.
3. Check your attachments before you "send" a email. You could use the expression like"please see the attachment for... "
4. Last but not least, be aware of the difference between Cc and Bcc.
