critical thinking
-
what is critical thinking?
when we state our opinions or beliefs, we have to give some arguments, or so called premises, to support our beliefs.
critical thinking is to make sure we have good reasons to support our beliefs. -
why is critical thinking important?
we have to gain the ability to distinguish the reasons for an argument or statement, to be good or bad. -
what are the basic concept of critical thinking?
- premise: a statement given in support of some other statements.
- argument: a set of statements that together comprise a reason for further statements.
- conclusion: a statement supported by some other statements.
a good argument: which is supportive to the conclusion.
- deductive arguments : when the premises are true, then the conclusion must be true!
- ampliative arguments: even though the premises are true, the conclusion could be false.
