I count(认为) myself lucky to live in the relative calm of the countryside, a safe distance away from the chaos and claustrophobia(幽闭恐惧症) of city life. However, I have to venture into(冒险进入) the urban jungles(都市生活中令人不快的部分) to work.
We are all squeezed into(挤进) this small space-so it’s no surprise that we get irritable(烦躁) and hot under the collar.(恼火,窘迫)
We might be hyper-vigilant(高度警觉的) thinking that a passenger is going to get into conversation with us.
We are persistently(执意地) looking for potential threats around us, which will reduce the likelihood that anybody will give eye contact.
Sometimes we have to grin and bear (忍气吞声,苦笑忍受)the pressures of city life. What’s worse, we do not know hoe to ease concerns.(缓解忧虑)
We may choose to be anonymous(匿名的)-to blend in(合群) with the crowd.
It’s our protective mechanism(保护机制) that makes us appear antisocial.(不合群,不喜欢社交)
