How to Balance Security and Privacy
These days surveillance cameras are installed everywhere from shopping malls to streets. This phenomenon has aroused growing concern among the public. When it comes to this issue, opinions vary from person to person.
Some people tend to believe widespread use of surveillance cameras is of great benefit for security. However, others argue that surveillance cameras everywhere threaten personal privacy.
On the one hand, it goes without saying that surveillance cameras can reduce crime. People are less likely to commit crime when they know the existence of cameras around. What's more,in the event of a crimie, cameras are able to provide evidence helping the police to identify culprits and solve the case more efficiently.
On the other hand, the prevalence of surveillance cameras has a negative impact on personal privacy. With cameras everywhere people are likely to feel that they are being watched because every move and conversation will be recorded. In addition, there is a concern about misuse of the data collected by these cameras. If the surveillance system is hacked, the data will fall into the hands of bad guys.
To sum up, I hold the point of view that we are supposed to take measures to balance security and privacy. Strict laws and rules should be made to regulate where to install surveillance cameras. Moreover, it is advisable that technologies should be applied to protect data collected by the cameras. Only by adopting these methods can we balance security and privacy.
“is of great benefit for security” 中介词 “for” 使用不太准确,改为 “to”,“be of benefit to...”
“know the existence of cameras” 表述稍显生硬,可改为 “know of the existence of cameras”,“know of” 表示 “知道,听说”,更符合表达习惯。
“helping the police to identify...”
“where to install surveillance cameras” 改为 “where surveillance cameras can be installed”,这样表达更清晰,明确是关于摄像头 “能够被安装” 的地点的规定。
“it is advisable that technologies should be applied” 中,在 “it is advisable that...”
