“loom” 本身是“以庞然大物的形状出现在前面”的意思，不过它还有内涵意义，表示“出现在人们心目中，既重大又令人惊恐不安”。我们想表示“迫在眉睫”、“一触即发”时，就可以想到用 loom 来表示，这时候主语一般都是一些有负向意义的词，比如 “crisis” “problem” “threat” “danger”等。
