Hey guys. I'm back again. I mentioned that I would like to make some changes to this Wechat Official Account（公众号）. Now I'm going to do something, but I can't promise that I'll update regularly.（但不能保证经常更文。） I'll try, for sure.

What I'm going to do is to add some British culture to our English learning. I think Art Galleries are great places for us to get to know about this country. 

I'm not an expert （专家），but I like art. For me, that matters. （这就足够了。）I'm just trying to show you the art works （艺术品）, and then I'll let you decide what you see and how you feel about them.

Our first stop is Southampton City Art Gallery （南安普顿城市美术馆）. Let's start.

                                                      Woman, Tree and Snake

What's your first impression of this painting? What does it remind you of? （你对这幅画的第一印象是什么？它让你联想到了什么？）

Yeah! You're right about Adam and Eve （亚当和夏娃）, the Garden of Eden（伊甸园）, the tree of knowledge of good and evil（智慧树）, the evil serpent （邪恶的毒蛇）. 

But if you look closer （如果仔细看看）, you may find  something is different. The woman in the painting is a tree herself （画中的女性本身也是一棵树).

Ring any bells?（有想到什么吗？）If you do, I will be so thrilled! If you know about Greek mythology（希腊神话）, you must know the story about Apollo and Daphne（太阳神阿波罗和河神之女达芙妮）.

故事梗概：太阳神阿波罗除了掌管太阳，还是缪斯女神们（注意！缪斯女神共有9个，掌管不同的领域。）的BOSS。所以阿波罗既是天界颜值担当，也精通琴棋、箭术、涉猎等等。 

有一天，阿波罗遇到爱神丘比特并嘲笑他是个小屁孩，根本不懂射箭。丘比特很生气，就向阿波罗射了一只金箭，于是阿波罗对碰巧出现的达芙妮一见钟情。这时淘气的丘比特向达芙妮射了一只铅箭（憎恶之箭），于是就出现了很多艺术作品中的经典场面，阿波罗在后追赶，达芙妮拼命向前跑。

当阿波罗马上追上达芙妮的时候，达芙妮向河神父亲求救。所以，当阿波罗的指尖触碰到达芙妮的时候，达芙妮变成了一棵树。

Why do I feel so excited about this story? Because my favourite sculpture（雕塑作品） is about this story, Giovanni Paolo Panini's （帕尼尼）Apollo and Daphne（《阿波罗和达芙妮》）.

Yet,Woman, Tree and Snake is actually not about this story.  The woman and the tree together imply life, love and greatness. （女性和树交融的形象代表了生命、爱和伟大。）The man's role, as a son or as a lover, changes with time.（男性的形象，半个成年人，即代表了儿子，也代表了爱人，他的角色随时间的改变而改变。）

However, don't get frustrated for not understanding the painter's meaning. （不要因为没有看懂画家的深意而受挫。）The painter does say, "Lots of people's lives are thrown together in my pictures, but there is also a strong sense of separateness."（“在我的作品中，很多形象被交织在一起，但又存在强烈的分离感。”）What's most important is that you enjoy the works and you feel conneted with them.（最最重要的是你在看作品的时候，心情是愉悦的，而且和画作有连接感。）

很高兴能和大家分享我在美术馆看到了一幅幅有趣的作品。美术馆是英国人日常生活的一部分，每次我去逛美术馆，不论是曼彻斯特、伦敦还是南安普顿，都会看到很小的小朋友们跟着父母亲一起在看作品，问父母问题，或者说一些自己的看法。艺术从小开始熏陶，变成了生活的一部分，就是人生的一部分。

艺术高于生活，但也源于生活。逛美术馆的经历教会我的，并不是学会鉴赏作品，事实上我至今是个门外汉。但它教会我去发现生活中的美好，学会在平凡中看到独特和不一样。

此外，通过艺术，可以了解非常多的西方历史和文化。我也是因为从2018年逛美术馆开始，对希腊罗马神话产生了兴趣。之前在国内还在网上听了中国传媒大学教授的相关课程。非常有意思。而且，经过我不断“熏陶”，我5岁的小侄女现在已经知道很多希腊神话里的人物和故事。比如，她知道伦敦Piccadilly Circus（皮卡迪利广场）十字路口的雕像并不是丘比特，虽然他也有一对翅膀。他是丘比特的弟弟安忒洛斯。他的翅膀是蝴蝶翅膀，丘比特的是天鹅翅膀。

这些就是我喜欢逛美术馆的原因。学习这些有用吗？我不知道，但是至少我受益良多，因此我也会一直热爱下去。
