Lesson 16 A polite request 彬彬有礼的要求

If you park your car in the wrong place, a traffic policeman will soon find it. You will be very lucky if he lets you go without a ticket. However, this does not always happen. Traffic police are sometimes very polite. During a holiday in Sweden, I found this note on my car:' Sir, we welcome you to our city. This is a "No Parking" area. You will enjoy your stay here if you pay attention to our street signs. This note is only a reminder.' If you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it!

From the police's View:

I am a 'usual'[=> common :170130] traffic police in Sweden. We are using a system to locate those illegal-parking cars. In order to keep traffic 'smoothly[=> smooth]'[=> moving :170130], we planned a series of areas for parking cars. But some drivers always breach the rule although we have given them tickets of punishment. Now we introduce a new policy to deal with this sort of things: notes of warm reminder rather than parking tickets are given to these drivers. Since this policy starts, the number of the illegal 'parks'[=> parkings :170130] decreases.

Funny notes of reminder:

If you park your car in the wrong place, the traffic police will find it out and leave you a parking ticket. That is the common phenomenon in most of countries in the world. But it is different in Sweden. Swedish police often stick notes of warm reminder on the illegal parking cars. "Sir, we welcome you to our city. Here is 'No parking' area. If you pay any attention to the signs in the street, you will enjoy your stay here. Just keep for reminder. " They think if people received such requests, they cannot fail to obey it.
