My Last English Speech
Good morning everyone, today is a special day for those students preparing and taking College Entrance Examination. Yeah, it's the last day for them. After today, they will have a long and fantastic vacation, and we still have exams. So here, let us wish that they could have nice scores and a beautiful holiday.
Yesterday afternoon, they just took the Math exam. So today, I'm gonna talk about Mathematics.
Mathematics is from the Ancient Greek word "mathema", which is originally means that "Learning what is needed to learn". At the period of Ancient Greek, matematics is a science or philosophy about numbers, including many pure and pratcal fields, such as music, dynamics, and some parts of physics. As the evolution of history of continues, mathematics become purer and purer, and graddually become the study of topics such as quantity, structure, space and change.
However, although something has changed, the core of mathematics still remains the same as it always is -- the freedom. Why is the freedom, and not anything else? It's a large question. But it's clear that at Ancient Greek, every person coming to this world all has a duty to learn mathematics. Because in most philosophers' eyes, mathematics is the rule of controling the world and learning it shows peaple's respect to the God, which are neccessary for every freeman. If you are a freeman, you can be unable to do anything but learn mathematics. It's mandatory.
At present, mathematics for us is also impotant, not only because of the wider and wider application fields of some certain specific math theories, but also because of those thoughts and ideas that could really change our mind and life.
What is math? Abstractly speaking, it's the freedom, it's the curiosity to this world, it's our persuit of permanence, it's our passionate heart to the truth, to the end of the world, and finally, to ourselves. That's math, and I think, it's also the purpse of science, of philosophy, rather than some specific theorems and formulas.
At last, I hope through the spirit of mathematics, we could lead a freer, more passionate and romantic life!
That's all my speech. Thank you.
