我翻译的《道德经》第三十九章（4）

原文:

是以候王自称孤、寡、不榖。此非以贱为本邪？非乎？故至誉无誉。是故不欲琭琭如玉，珞珞如石。

译文:

因此侯王们自称为“孤”、“寡”、“不谷”，这不就是以贱为根本吗？不是吗？所以最高的荣誉无须赞美称誉。不要求琭琭晶莹像宝玉，而宁愿珞珞坚硬像山石。

我的翻译:

So the kings claimed  themselvs to be "solitaries", "neediness" and"unworthiness".

Is this a case  that the noble is based on the humble?isn't it?

So the highest honor doesn't need to be praised.

It does not require a crystal to tinkle like  a jade,but rather resound like a hard  stone.
