#TCI讲座#如何问出好问题,与学生互动
Notes from Lu Haiyun’s lecture “Engage and Connect Via Questioning”.
Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers. - By Voltaire
Types of questions in a language class:
1. Circling questions 循环式提问
在原点,围绕一句话/一个信息,进行重复性提问。
2. Exploratory questions 探索式提问
以一句话/一个信息为起点或激发点,激发更多的想法或兴趣。
两种问题是相辅相成的关系。
The purpose of circling:
1. Provide abundant repetition;
2. Check for comprehension;
3. Check for confirmation.
The purpose of Exploratory questioning:
1. To connect;
2. To engage;
3. To personalize;
4. To inspire deep thinking/deep learning.
Both types are very important. Circling is the foundation for exploratory questioning. Without circling, there won’t be language acquisition; without exploratory questioning, there won’t be sense of belongs or unity.
Circling questions:
1. Yes/No question;
2. This or that /Either or;
3. WH-questions.
We can ask these 3 types questions based on each part of this sentence.
How to make your questioning more interesting?
Technique 1: Use shadow & make good preparation.
Technique 2: Use Terry Waltz’s question cards.
Summary:
How to ask good exploratory questions?
1. Listen: be a good listener, not just a question asker.
Really care about the students or be interested in them.
