Binh is a cook who mixes Vietnamese food in to French food and creates many new recipes for his career. May be Binh’s new recipes acts as a metaphor for the value of combining two cultures. This mixed food connects his own culture with the French culture and also remind him of his mother’s love. Charging Elk was in the more difficult situation and struggled to survive his life in France. Unlike most people who leave their country and family to search a better life in to new country.Charging Elk did not choose the situation, which makes it more difficult for him to change his life style to live in the new culture. Binh little bit easy to move on, because he Vietnam occupied by France, he knows little bit French culture. Charging Elk does not have any thing about France. That is the reason Charging Elk finds it so difficult to fit in new culture. Binh moved to France because his father did not accept him as a gay man. Charging Elk was a unlucky man who was left behind after he fell from the horse broken two ribs while performing with Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. The show left him in the French hospital, the show group move to Rome. Charging Elk has no choice but to stay in France, because he does not have money to buy a ticket go back to America. He cannot speak English and French. If he wants a life in the France, find a job, learn a new language. Food as a language to connect to his hometown and overcome the problems. Overall, both men in France connect to the food as a powerful language to help then to learn new culture, and new language.
