读韩鹏杰中文和许渊冲英文《道德经》笔记（33）

原文：大道氾兮，其可左右。万物恃之而生而不辞，功成不名有，衣养万物而不为主。常无欲，可名于小；万物归焉而不为主，可名为大。以其终不自为大，故能成其大。

翻译：The divine law is a stream

overflowing letf and right.

All things grow from it,

and it never turns away.

It achieves the deed without the fame.

It breeds all things

but will not claim to be their lord.

So it may be called “Little.”

All things cling to it,

but it will not claim to be their master.

So it may be called “Great.”

As it never claims to be great,

so it becomes great.
